The biggest congratulations – you’ve found ‘the one’ and ready to celebrate and start planning your dream wedding filled with love. It’s such an exciting time but can definitely sometimes feel a little overwhelming on where to start. Here are my top tips on the most important things to do after making it all official.
CELEBRATE THE MOMENT
Your feeling on cloud nine and totally loved up and in the moment so now it’s time to celebrate! Make all the important calls to your family and friends sharing your happy news. Show off that beautiful engagement ring and enjoy that sparkle! Plan an engagement party and take in every moment of this beautiful time.
GET INSPIRED
The first step on planning your wedding is to start compiling some inspiration on what kind of style and feel you would love your wedding to be. Start with making up some inspo boards on Pinterest such as the style of dresses, florals, wedding photography, venues etc This will help you work out what styles you are drawn to and give you an overall feel on how you would like your special day to look. You can also search on Instagram and wedding directories such as Ivory Tribe, Hello May, The Wed, The Lane and Theodore which are brilliant resources for all things weddings and help you choose your key vendors.
SET THE DATE
Before setting your date think about what time of year and season would suit you best. Spring and Summer would have to be the most popular in terms of weather ( if your in Melbourne we tend to have four seasons in one day so there is no guarantee!) Winter can also be romantic ( think beautiful long-sleeved dresses, warm fires, and great comforting food) while Autumn can have the prettiest light and the changing colour of the leaves. While the actual date will depend on your chosen venue’s availability, it’s a good idea to have your preferred season in mind before starting the search.
BOOK YOUR KEY VENDORS
Now that you have a good idea of the style of wedding you would love and the time of year, the fun part now starts with locking in your wedding vendors. Most key vendors are booked at least 12-18 months in advance so my advice is to contact them as soon as you can. The first vendor to book would be the venue as this will set the date of your wedding. Next up would be your wedding photographer, videographer and florist. These four wedding vendors tend to be the most important and play the biggest part in your wedding day. Once these key vendors have been booked and locked in you can then take your time planning all the smaller details such as styling, ceremony, the dress etc

THE WRAP UP
It’s such an exciting time to get engaged and plan your wedding. My biggest advice is to take your time, really think about what’s important to you as a couple and lock in your key vendors early. This ensures you can then relax and take your time with the smaller details – enjoy the process x
